The hospital in Legnica is the largest employer in the region, giving job to over 1,100 people. It has 24 departments with over six hundred beds and 29 dispensaries. It provides specialized medical care for residents of Legnica, Legnica county, Jawor county and Zlotoryja county. In case of departments: obstetric-gynecological, psychiatric, palliative medicine, hepatological and especially neonatal care, the range of providing services expands to residents of neighboring regions of Jelenia Gora , Wroclaw andWalbrzych. The hospital welcomes annually more than 100,000 patients in departments and dispensaries.
Patients are supervised by highly specialized professional medical staff. The neonatal department is led by senior consultant Wojciech Kowalik and has the third degree reference. This is a proof for the highest competence recognized by the Ministry of Health. In Lower Silesia only a few clinics in Wroclaw have received such classification.
The hospital is constantly expanding the range of medical services by running new departments. In recent years departments of psychiatrist, pulmonologist, rehabilitation neurological and stroke subdepartment, at the neurology department have been shared Thus patients with stroke are provided with comprehensive care. The undisputed success was, , lauching the department with hemodynamics, neuroradiology and electrophysiology labs in partnership with Miedziowe Centrum Zdrowia.
The Hospital Director Krystyna Barcik courts for sharing further medical services, so that a patient from Legnica and the surrounding area doesnot have to seek a care in faraway centers in Wroclaw.
Recent years were time of investments worth millions. The hospital realized – within the “Regionalny Program Operacyjny dla Województwa Dolnośląskiego na lata 2007–2013” programme – four EU projects: two involving the purchase of modern medical equipment for more than 12 million zloty, Lower Silesian E-zdrowie for 800 tousend złoty and installation of high-efficiency cogeneration worth 1,800 tausend zloty. Recently large-scale modernization projects of redecoration the Emergency Department were finished including the construction of a heliport for nearly 10 million zloty (under the “Program Operacyjny Infrastruktura i Środowisko” programme) and thermo-modernization of buildings, co-funded by the “Narodowy Fundusz Ochrony Środowiska i Gospodarki Wodnej” programme. Projects of installation a new heating node and photovoltaic panels as well as the second step of the Lower Silesian E-zdrowie, are continued – both funded from the ROP WD. This is the largest investment since the beginning of the clinic in her over 20-year-old history.
